Toyota Taisor to Skoda Superb: Cars expected to launch in India in April

Indian automakers are preparing for an exciting upcoming financial year, with several new vehicle launches scheduled to begin in April. There is considerable excitement surrounding these releases, as a total of six vehicles, including SUVs, hatchbacks, and sedans, are set to enter the Indian market. As per HT Auto, here are upcoming cars expected to debut in April this year.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor

Among the key highlights is Toyota Motor’s much-anticipated unveiling of the Urban Cruiser Taisor, a compact SUV that takes inspiration from the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. This marks Toyota’s fourth collaboration with Maruti Suzuki in India, underscoring the strategic alliance between the two automotive giants. Scheduled for release on April 3, the Taisor SUV is expected to inherit several design cues from the Fronx while incorporating distinctive alterations to elements such as the grille, bumper, and alloy wheels.

Toyota intends to commence mass production of the electric Hilux pickup truck by the conclusion of 2025, as confirmed by the president of its Thailand unit on the sidelines of the ongoing 2024 Bangkok International Motor Show. This declaration closely follows recent developments from another Japanese automotive competitor, Isuzu, in the BEV space.

After a long wait, we will finally have an SUV in the Toyota portfolio. It will be the rebadged version of the popular SUV Maruti Fronx, the Toyota Taisor. Just like previous rebadged Maruti cars, the Taisor will also share maximum design elements with the Fronx. The only possible changes we expect are new bumpers, new alloy wheels, and different front grille. The interiors and features are also expected to remain the same but could get a different design for the steering wheel.

The engine and transmission options will be exactly the same which includes a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated and a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. Talking about the launch date, the Taisor is set to arrive on 3rd of April 2024. In terms of pricing, the Taisor will be priced very similar to the Fronx which ranges between Rs 8.71 lakh to Rs 15.24 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Tata Altroz Racer

Next, we are expecting the launch of one of the most anticipated cars, the Tata Altroz Racer. According to reports, Tata will launch the Altroz racer in the second week of April 2024. The Altroz Racer will be based on the regular Altroz but will pack extra performance and features. The major talking point is the performance as the Altroz Racer will get Nexon’s more powerful 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine. This unit produces 118bhp & 172Nm of torque and will be mated with a 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCA (expected) transmissions.

Now as seen at the 2023 Auto Expo & 2024 Bharat Mobility Show, Altroz Racer will get some minor tweaks inside and outside to make it look sportier. It gets racing stripes stickering on the outside along with sportier alloy wheels and rear spoiler. On the inside, the Altroz Racer will get all black interiors with red inserts on the dashboard and red and white elements on the black leatherette seats. The hatchback will get all the features from the regular model along with additional features like ventilated seats, 360-degree camera, 10.25-inch touchscreen system & 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Pricing wise, the Altroz Racer could be priced anywhere between Rs 11 lakh to Rs 14 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Finally, we are expecting a grand launch from Mahindra – XUV300 Facelift. It’s been months and months of spotting the test car of the XUV300 & finally we are closer to its launch. The SUV will get all new exterior and interior with premium features. The exterior will get new headlamps, new bumpers, new alloy wheels, and connected LED tail lamps. Talking about the interiors, we had previously received spy shots which revealed the interiors of the XUV300. Just like the exterior, the interiors will also be all new. In fact it mimics the design language of the more premium SUV – the XUV700.

That said, it will get an XUV700-like touchscreen system and digital instrument cluster, both expected to be at 10.25-inch in size. Even the centre console could be similar to that of XUV700 and will probably get an electronic parking brake with auto hold feature. Also, it is highly expected that the XUV300 facelift could come with a panoramic sunroof. The engine options will be the same as before. It gets a 1.2-litre petrol engine, 1.2-litre diesel engine, and 1.2-litre TGDi engine options. The transmission options will also likely remain unchanged but the diesel engine is expected to come with a new 6-speed torque converter gearbox. In terms of pricing, the Mahindra XUV300 facelift could be priced anywhere between Rs 9.50 lakh to Rs 19 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Upcoming cars April 2024

Another new car, or a car making its comeback is the Skoda Superb. It will be launched on 3rd April 2024. The brand plans to re-introduce the previous generation of Superb in India. The only drawback is that it would come as a CBU import, so it could retail around Rs 55 lakh (ex-showroom). Skoda plans to bring 100 units of the Superb. This CBU unit will come with ADAS features like lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control. Other changes include a new Columbus infotainment system and a 360-degree camera with park assist.
